About this kitchen
lifefoods is a small, independent site about cooking with whole ingredients in a New Zealand home kitchen.
The pieces are written by the kitchen editors, a handful of people who cook most nights, shop at the same supermarkets and markets as everyone else, and got tired of reading packets that promise more than food can deliver. We do not publish names or bylines. The site is meant to be judged on whether its advice works at the bench, not on who wrote it.
How we write
- We describe what a food is, how it is grown or made, how it cooks and what a normal portion looks like.
- When a claim on a packet is not backed by good evidence, we say so plainly and move on.
- We link to the public sources we used, mostly Health New Zealand, the Ministry for Primary Industries and Food Standards Australia New Zealand.
- Every factual claim is checked against a source before it goes up. If we get something wrong, we fix the piece and change the date note.
What we are not
We are not a shop, a supplement brand, a clinic or a dietitian. There are no affiliate links, no sponsored pieces and no advertising. We are not connected to the online store that used this web address between 2012 and 2016, or to anything that followed it. The archive note has the details.
For advice about your own diet or health, please talk to your GP or a NZ-registered dietitian.
